November 2006 - All South West beaches meeting EU targets

Great news for bathers - Water quality has improved in the south west with all monitored beaches meeting European Union standards. Tests showed 100% of the beaches met minimum EU mandatory regulations.
Geoff Boyd from the Environment Agency said " The next step is for the good work to carry on so that these high standards are maintained in the years to come"

August 2006 - Cornish airbase considered as space travel launch site

Flying to Cornwall for your holiday? Sir Richard Branson's business Virgin Galactic may consider using RAF St Mawgan, near Newquay, as a "spaceport" for its launch pad for space travel, it has been revealed. Tickets for the three-hour journey will cost £115,000. Virgin Galactic plans to launch its first flight from its main base in New Mexico, USA, in 2008! I think a holiday at Perran Springs would work out a bit cheaper :-)

June 2006 - The Golowan Festival - Penzance - 15th to 25th June.

A ten day celebration of the Feast of St John, the town's patron saint. Come and see a fireworks display, hear music from Cornwall and beyond, and take part in some walks and talks. The festival culminates in the Big Weekend with Mazey Day on Saturday 24th, featuring an ancient serpent dance through the streets, parades of giant images, and Quay Fair Day on Sunday 25th based around the harbour.
