Here at Perran Springs Holiday Park we understand just how much your touring caravan means to you, after all these second homes cost a lot of money and taking care to maintain them is of the up-most importance. So to make sure you arrive safe and sound on your well-deserved break, we have put together a small guide on how to maintain and service your touring caravan before you set off.

First off regular servicing of your touring caravan is not only required by law, but will pay off in the long run with much more reliability and longevity of your touring caravan, which in turn allows you to get so much more enjoyment out of your touring caravan.

There are two main elements when it comes to maintaining your touring caravan making sure it is in great condition:
1. Regular servicing
2. Annual servicing

Regular servicing
Regular or routine maintenance can be done by the owner throughout the year and before any journey to make sure the vehicle is in a good and roadworthy condition.

Check the following:

• Check your touring caravan’s tyres and wheels
Check the thread condition and the air pressure in your tyres before you leave; this should also include your spare tyre. Check the wheel rims for kerbing damage and make sure the wheel nuts are to the correct tightness
• Check your touring caravan’s batteries
Because you don’t use your caravan everyday it essential you check the battery before you leave, this should also include the battery charge state
• Check the oil and water
Make sure your oil levels and water levels are topped up, the most common cause of problems is the engine seizing up due to lack of oil.
• Check the touring caravans lights
Check that all the lights are working correctly, such as headlights, indicators and road lights between the caravan and car
• Check all the appliances work
Check the fridge, cooker and all the other appliances are working as they should including gas pipes and water pipes
• Check the breakaway cable and clip

Although this is part of the annual servicing it is a good idea to check for any general wear and tear

Annual servicing

The annual servicing of your touring caravan is required by law like any other road vehicle and should be carried out by a professional and qualified expert. Ideally a member of the Approved Workshop Scheme (AWS) which was set up by the Camping and Caravan Club, The Caravan Club and the National Caravan Council to maintain consistent standards in the maintenance and servicing of caravans with-in the caravanning industry.

Now that your touring caravan is in tip top condition we hope you have a safe journey and hope to see you soon at Perran Springs Holiday Park.
