Missed Glastonbury? Couldn’t get tickets for Leeds/Reading or Bestival? If this is the case then you have nothing to worry about because the UK’s best festival hasn’t happened yet, and you can still bag yourself some tickets to the hottest music festival going. We are of course speaking about Boardmasters, a 5 day bonanza of surf, music, sun, sand and wellbeing which take place between the 7th and the 11th of August held in the awesome Cornish hotspot of Newquay. Boardmasters is much more than a festival, it is a celebration of life and an opportunity to indulge yourself for five glorious days in a free-spirited, free thinking and fun-filled adventure. This festival is the UK’s best kept secret and if dancing, surfing and partying to great music on the beach sounds like your kind of thing, here is what you can expect from Boardmasters 2019.

A Brief History
Newquay has been a surfer’s paradise for many decades and the waves here have attracted some of the world’s greatest surfers to the Cornish shores. It was inevitable that this town’s surf vibe would spawn a festival and that is exactly what happened in 1981 when the very first Boardmasters event was held. Back then the festival was purely about surfing, in particular the Pro Surf competition which is held during the festival, later came BMX and skateboarding competitions and in 2005 the festival witnessed its first foray into live music. Since then some of the world’s greatest artists have graced the stage and currently this festival sees close to 55,000 people in attendance.

This Year’s Epic Line-Up
This year’s line-up could well be its finest yet and if you want to see some of the best acts on theplanet then this is the place to be. Kicking off on Friday night the legendary Wu-Tang Clan will be headlining bringing their smooth flows and lyrical mastery to the beach, as if that wasn’t enoughUK rapper Giggs will also be playing, along with Razorlight, The Wombats and more. Saturday sees UK grime god Dizzee Rascal ripping up the stage along with Rudimental, Franz Ferdinand and headlines Florence and the Machine, don’t miss out on upcoming artist Sam Fender too! TO finish the weekend’s music Foals will be headlining on Sunday and the stage will also be graced by the likes of Plan B, Sub Focus, Lewis Capaldi and Jorja Smith. The line-up for this event is incredible and no matter what music you are into you’ll find something that suits you perfectly.

Peace, Love, Wellbeing and Surf
As we have mentioned this event is about far more than surfing and skating, it is about far more than music and it is also about more than the scenery. This is a festival with an ethos which is focused on all of these things, with a concurrent theme of love, freedom and environmental consciousness running through it. This festival places heavy focus on sustainability and the freedom of the soul, the music, the surf and the scenery are merely a backdrop to a clear message of peace, love and looking after the planet. The festival partners with Surfers Against Sewage to spread the word about green living and much of the money that is made goes towards this goal.

Surfing
We mustn’t forget the reason for this festival’s existence which is the sporting events that take place during the festival. Everyone gets the chance to surf on these awesome waves and there are loads of chances for beginners to get involved too. The World Surf League Pro competition takes place across the weekend too where you’ll see some of the best in the world coming to Boardmasters to show off their skills. Back on land you can witness some dizzying BMX and skateboard exhibitions and you can even hit the half-pipe yourself if you are up for a challenge. Throughout the festival you’ll find all of this and more, from silent discos to Cornish markets, educational speakers to yoga classes, great food, fun people, gorgeous beaches and a great atmosphere where everyone feels safe and can let their spirits run free. Forget the festivals grabbing the headlines, this is the place to be this year, go get your tickets for Boardmasters.
